Two Dimensional Colloid Crystals at University of Konstanz, Germany

I have worked at Prof. Maret's team at University of Konstanz on two dimensional colloid crystals.

I have researched possible combinations of ferro fluids and colloids. This is necessary because the stabilisation of the colloid may be destroyed by ingredients of the ferro fluids. Furthermore I have tested different experimental setups to place the colloids in a flat plane.

2d colloid crystal Therefor I am familiar with the usage of laboratory equipment like microscopes, ultrasonic devices, surface coatings, pipettes and the necessary care to archive useful results. Beside this practical work I gained also insight into the different physical properties, that determine the behaviour of colloidal systems.

For the experimental setup I designed and build a device for remote control of the camera position and level control in the fluid cell. (Motion Controller Jog Dial)

In a second project I build a controller for the magnetic field which is applied to the sample. It is possible to control the current through two coils at high precision direct at the device and remote via computer. (µC Control) and (µC Control Plus)

See for more details the homepage of the team.

The picture shows polystyrene colloid in a ferro fluid with a magnetic field applied to achieve the crystallisation.
